HOUSEHOLD VEHICLE OWNERSHIP PERCENTAGE BY CITY

This is the list of vehicle ownership percentage in the cities of Nepal. Note that the data show the number of household with the given type of vehicles not the total number of Vehicles i.e if a single household has 2 motorbikes they will be counted once. The main source data is on second table where you can sort the data by choosing from dropdown list alongside Sort by.The list shows data for Metropolitan and Sub-Metropolitan Cities only. The bold indicates Metropolitan city.The data is based on CBS 2021

Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City in Bara district is the city with highest percentage of cycle ownership per household with Dhangadhi and Birgunj close behind. Lalitpur Metro on the other hand has the highest percentage of Cars and Bikes ownership per household.
Car and bikes sure are convenient way to get around the city. But we have to understand that just because something is convenient it doesn't mean its right. While car and bikes are symbol of the city they are not solution to sustainable transport system. Gustavo Petro, current president of Columbia and former mayor of Bogata once said "A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It's where the rich use public transportation." It is time that we teach our generation that a car is not a symbol of success Cycling doesn't mean poverty.
